Advanced independent study with a twist. In this class, students will expand on existing skills. Focus on craftsmanship and design will be emphasized. Complex and advanced stone setting techniques, fabrication and mechanisms. Learn and expand your skills while developing your creativity. Students must be able to solder independently and have a design skill set. This is a technique based class. Demos’s will be introduced throughout the session. Students are expected to develop their own designs and projects, soldering independently, design skills, stone setting & tool safety.

In this class, students will expand on existing skills. Focus on craftsmanship and finishing will be emphasized. Complex soldering techniques, fabrication, texturing, forming and much more will be introduced. Tips for creative problem solving will be discussed. New techniques and original projects will be shown each session. Stones will be used during class, please bring what you have. Learn new skills while developing your creativity. Students must know safety of studio and comfortable soldering alone.

Introduce yourself to the world of metalsmithing and create three beautiful bangle bracelets that will excite your soul. In this class, you will learn the techniques used including measuring, cutting, soldering, forging and polishing. You will complete your bracelets in this one-day workshop. Materials will range between $50 and $70 plus tax payable to the instructor at the beginning of the class. Checks and credit cards accepted. Closed-toe shoes are a must and hair must be worn back.

Explore and push your creativity with clay! This class will cover the basic and more intermediate skills of handbuilding. Possibilities range from functional pots to sculptures.
Students will be introduced to numerous glazing techniques that allow them to explore mid-fire (cone 6 electric) and hi-fire (cone 10 reduction) glazes.
Bring your own pottery tools or purchase a kit at the front desk.
Class fee includes 25lbs of clay, firing, and in studio glazing.

You are an artist, you may just not know it yet. This class is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty, let go, and create. You will learn the basics of hand building ceramic objects both functional and sculptural. Methods explored include pinch pots, coils, and slab work. This is an independent study, hands on, open to anyone who has experience with clay and has taken a class at ArtCenter Manatee or Herrig Center for the Arts. This class has no instructor, but there is learning amongst students.  Class fee includes 25lb of clay, bisque and glaze firing.
*Note: You must have taken at least one session of classes with an instructor before you can register for this class.

A fun and meditative way to create art using washi tape! In this hands on workshop, you’ll explore how paper tape can be used to build texture, define shapes, and add intricate patterns to your paintings. Through guided techniques and playful experimentation, you’ll learn how to layer, cut and integrate washi tape with acrylic paint and colored pencils to create a mixed media artwork. By the end of the session you will have a finished painting to take home and a fresh perspective on incorporating unconventional materials into your creative practice.
