The foundation of all art is drawing. If you have never drawn before or just want to sharpen your skill, this class is a must. Focusing on perspective, balance, form, and contrast as it all relates to composition; we will train the eye to take a drawing from sketch to finished artwork in the medium of your choice. Bring quality photos to use and I suggest choosing a subject you are passionate about.

Artists quality colored pencils are an ideal medium for fine art as versatile, clean and easy to master. Get a thorough grounding in techniques and apply them to a project. References provided or develop your own original subjects. Try various pencil brands and surfaces, learn color mixing and creating effects. Bring your own pencils; some sets will be available for use in class along with sample papers and other tools. For all levels – great for beginners, but even expert users will learn new tips for better results.

While experience drawing the human figure is helpful, all artistic levels are welcome. An experienced monitor is available to set up the model with lighting & position, and set pace for changing poses during each session. Our studio monitor will provide drawing advice or opinion as you request. your studio advisor will also be drawing during these sessions, so feel free to observe and share thoughts and questions.
Model fee is included with the session fee.
Be sure to bring your own dry art media materials of choice.
Please expect partial draped or undraped model poses.

Explore the many ways to use these versatile pencils wet or dry, alone or for mixed media. Great for sketching or serious artwork, they even mix well with pen and ink and traditional watercolor. Some paper is provided; bring your own pencils or borrow class sets.

Foundation of Drawing, Janet Flickinger
This is a class for the young artist. The class is focusing on all aspects of art. We will train the eye how to see as it related to direction of line, curves, form, shape, contrast, etc. We will learn how to look at something and draw it exactly. All projects will be finished in pencil, color pencil, or watercolor. Once the basics are learned, we will focus on design and composition. Students are to bring pictures they want to draw. All art supplies for this class are provided.
