Pattern Transfer onto Clay Forms
Ted Camp
Thursdays, 1:00-4:00
There are a number of ways to work with repeatable images on clay. The simplest would be to use commercial stencils, which is where the course will begin. Following that will be the use of commercial rice paper transfers. The student will then be able to explore the use of monoprint transfer from rice paper of their own designs to clay with the use of photo silkscreening. This is very useful for creating personal repetitive patterns. Small examples of material needed for these techniques will be provided with the opportunity (not required) for the student to purchase larger sized material for the execution of these techniques. Whether using your own personal stencils, or the multitude of commercial designs, students will strive to coordinate their patterns with the forms they are placed on. An opportunity to work with ceramic decals (overglaze) will also be provided. Finally, commercial lusters will be available to be used in concert with the transfers and decals. Class fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, and firing.
