If enrolled in aftercare, pick up time is no later than 5:00pm.

Personal items such as music devices, cell phones, etc. are not permitted in class.

Scratching the Surface     B-A

Beginning and experience potters are welcome! Using different techniques, we will explore surfaces and textures on our clay. Adding and subtracting from your clay can be scary but with help you can learn new and exciting ways to create a unique look to standard pieces Class fee includes 25lbs of clay, firing, and in-studio glazes. Wheel & More!     I-A

Enjoy working on the wheel but want to hone your skills? Or maybe you want to make something other than a bowl. This is the class for you. Each class will discuss and demo a new item on the wheel. Your creations might be functional, whimsy or maybe your greatest work of art. Experience potter must be able to throw 1 lb of clay with ease. Learn the basics of clay, glaze and hand building. During this 6-week course you will be introduced to basic hand building techniques, including pinch pots, coils, and slab work to name a few. This is an independent study, hands on, open to anyone who has experience with clay and has taken a class at Herrig Center for the Arts or Herrig Center for the Arts. This class has no instructor, but there is learning amongst students.  Class fee includes 25lb of clay, bisque and glaze firing.
*Note: You must have taken at least one session of classes with an instructor before you can register for this class.

Beginners & Beyond, Handbuilding     B-A

Explore and push your creativity with clay! This class will cover the basic and more intermediate skills of handbuilding. Possibilities range from functional pots to sculptures.
Students will be introduced to numerous glazing techniques that allow them to explore mid-fire (cone 6 electric) and hi-fire (cone 10 reduction) glazes.
Bring your own pottery tools or purchase a kit at the front desk.
Class fee includes 25lbs of clay, firing, and in studio glazing.

Beginner & Intermediate Wheel Throwing     B-I

Wednesdays: 1:00 – 4:00

This class is designed for beginners and intermediates. Learn throwing, trimming, glazing and firing techniques with plenty of one-on-one instruction. You will be shown how to create basic forms as well as more complicated forms such as lidded jars, mugs and teapots. Additional instruction will include how to apply texture to clay to create decorative surfaces. Bring pottery tools or purchase a set of tools from the gift shop. Class fee includes 25lbs of stoneware clay, glazes, in-studio bisque and glaze firing.
