SUMMARY:Manatee County School District Annual K-12 Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Kellogg\, Searle & Reid Hodges Galleries \nHerrig Center for the Arts once again joins with the School District of Manatee County to showcase the work of K-12 visual arts students. In Manatee County\, we’re fortunate to have a Board of Education that has made a continued commitment to teaching the visual arts in its elementary\, middle and high schools. By partnering with Herrig Center for the Arts\, that commitment is furthered by giving these young artists a ‘voice’ – three museum-quality galleries – where their work can be professionally displayed and where the artists can receive positive recognition by a wider audience.

SUMMARY:James Griffin: The Road To Home Curated Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:James Griffin: The Road To Home \nCurated Exhibit \nKellogg Gallery \nOpening: Dec 2\, 5 – 7 pm \nAward-winning artist\, James Griffin presents a show of new paintings created during the pandemic of 2020-2021. During that time the artist did as he usually does\, paint\, only more so. During the long months of lockdown\, there were no restraints on what or how he could paint. The only rule he set for himself was that every brush stroke\, scraping or mark had to be authentic. If an area in a painting seemed too facile or habitual\, it was scraped off or painted over. \nWalks around his neighborhood yielded many canvases and then a new location in Tennessee inspired a whole series on mountains. His wife\, Debbie became a reoccurring subject in many of his paintings.  Sometimes the subject emerged from an abstract beginning\, the way the images appear in dreams without explanation. Time itself seemed to take a vacation\, allowing for extended dreaming to find its way onto his canvases. \nThere is abundant variety in these images\, but one common theme in all the work is expression. Juicy paint merges with forceful scraping and intense color harmonies. It is a riot of color that somehow manages to convey a sense of home. For the artist\, home is more than a dwelling\, home is where the color lives\, where inspiration lives and where the heart is.

SUMMARY:Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Curated Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Curated Exhibit\nKellogg\, Searle\, & Reid Hodges Galleries \nDedicated to preserving and promoting excellence in representational art\, Oil Painters of America’s primary mission is to advance the cause of traditional\, representational fine art by drawing attention to the lasting value of fine drawing\, color\, composition and the appreciation of light. Through our national and regional shows\, educational programs\, scholarships and marketing efforts\, OPA has become a leader in the art community and a driving force in the new Renaissance. \nOil Painters of America was founded in 1991 by Shirl Smithson primarily to focus attention on the lasting value of fine drawing\, color\, composition and the appreciation of light. Though there have been many national watercolor and pastel societies\, OPA is the first national organization to be established for the sole purpose of representing traditional\, representational oil painters. OPA membership currently stands at 3\,400 artists. The principal reason behind the swelling of the ranks of this national organization is the strong commitment OPA has towards preventing a further decline of this beautiful form of art. \nApproximately 100 pieces accepted into this show will demonstrate the highest quality in draftsmanship\, color\, and composition\, emphasizing diversity in representational style and subject manner. Total awards will be approximately $11\,500 in cash and merchandise\, including a $4\,000 award for Best In Show.
